Iguaçu National Park is certified as a protected environment.
Iguaçu National Park received the Certificate of Sanitary Responsibility and the Seal of Protected Environment yesterday afternoon, the 11th. The certification was granted by the Municipal Secretary of Tourism, Industry, Commerce, and Strategic Projects, Sebrae-PR, and the Municipal Tourism Council (Comtur).
Foz do Iguaçu was one of the first destinations in Brazil to adopt this measure, and the experience has served as a model for other cities.
The certification was awarded after verifying that the conservation unit, where the Iguaçu Falls are located, complied with all the measures recommended by Health Surveillance in combating the pandemic.
The award, created by municipal decree, certifies tourist attractions, accommodations, restaurants, and other establishments that comply with sanitary safety protocols.
“The implementation of the sanitary protocols was a joint effort between Integrated Management, Iguaçu National Park, and the concessionaires. Receiving the certification guarantees that we have built a safe environment for visitors to return to our destination,” highlighted the park’s chief, Ivan Baptiston.
Also receiving certification were Cataratas SA, the main Sustainable Tourism concessionaire in the country responsible for managing tourist visitation at Iguaçu National Park, as well as Macuco Safari, the company that manages the boat ride on the Iguaçu Falls.
The Itaipu Tourist Complex was the first attraction in Foz do Iguaçu to receive the Certificate of Sanitary Responsibility and the Seal of Protected Environment.
The certification was presented at the Visitor Reception Center of PNI by the Secretary of Tourism, Industry, Commerce, and Strategic Projects, Gilmar Piolla, the president of the Municipal Tourism Council – Comtur, Paulo Angeli, and the consultant from Sebrae-PR, Marcelo Padilha. The certificate was received by the chief of Iguaçu National Park, Ivan Baptiston, the director of Cataratas do Iguaçu S/A, Adélio Demeterko, and the representative of Macuco Safari, Juliane Nunes.
“Foz do Iguaçu is at the forefront of complying with sanitary protocols, which are part of our responsibility to serve well and ensure the safety of tourists,” emphasized Angeli. “The Certificate of Sanitary Responsibility, along with the Seal of Protected Environment, is our welcome card for tourists visiting us from now on. We are adopting all necessary measures to ensure that visitors can come to Foz do Iguaçu with peace of mind, as they will be well taken care of here,” stated Piolla.
Certification
Attractions meet more than 30 requirements to receive the Certificate. Among them: establishing sanitary barriers with disinfecting mats, measuring temperature, and administering a questionnaire about respiratory symptoms; conducting daily active searches for individuals (employees and customers) with symptoms compatible with Covid-19; prioritizing electronic check-in for ticket sales; requiring the use of masks by employees and visitors, installing hand sanitizer stations in strategic locations, and cleaning and disinfecting vehicles at the end of each trip.
The certification is part of a series of actions adopted by the Acelera Foz program, aimed at recovering the city’s economy. This initiative involves the Economic and Social Development Council of Foz do Iguaçu (Codefoz), the Municipal City Hall, Itaipu Binacional, the Itaipu Technological Park (PTI), Sebrae, the Oeste Development Program, the Commercial and Business Association of Foz do Iguaçu (ACIFI), and the Municipal Tourism Council (Comtur), among other institutions.
